LA ART SHOW

LA ART SHOW

Los Angeles has emerged as a global epicenter of art & culture, with a distinct, interwoven multi-cultural influence unique to the city. Diversity is our strength and art is most impactful when it includes or transcends all borders. As LA rises as the world-class destination for art, the LA Art Show continues to lead the way with innovative programming and one-of-a-kind experiences for an expanding collecting audience. LA Art Show is the unparalleled international art experience with over 120 galleries, museums, and non-profit arts organizations from around the world exhibiting painting, sculpture, works on paper, installation, photography, design, video and performance. All works presented by galleries are available for your purchasing pleasure.

More than 180,000 square feet of exhibition space is committed to today’s prominent galleries. These domestic and international galleries, beyond their booths, curate special exhibits that are at the forefront of the burgeoning contemporary art movement. The fair offers an extraordinary array of works and experiences in specialized sections.

MODERN + CONTEMPORARY

The largest section of programming at the LA Art Show, Modern + Contemporary exhibits the vast spectrum of contemporary painting, illustration, sculpture and more from galleries in Los Angeles, the Pacific Rim, and countries all around the world.

DIVERSEartLA

Capitalizing on the city’s position on the Pacific Rim, DIVERSEartLA is a special programming section devoted to nurturing the creative energy of international collectors, artists, curators, museums and non-profits by connecting them directly with audiences in Los Angeles. The LA Art Show donates 50,000 square feet of exhibition space to participating organizations each year as our civic engagement, and the featured work is not for sale. Overall curation by Marisa Caichiolo with individual curators from institutions around the world.

FEATURED EXHIBITIONS

Expanding beyond the confines of booth spaces, Featured Exhibitions create immersive experiences to engage audiences through thought-provoking artworks, performances and other exhibitions offered by participating galleries, highlighting works that will be talked about for years to come.

WORLD-CLASS VENUE

The LA Convention Center, home to the LA Art Show is strategically situated at the city’s dynamic epicenter with convenient access to the world-renowned LA LIVE!, home to the Grammy and Emmy Awards, The Grammy Museum, and an impressive entertainment complex that includes the Microsoft Theatre, the Crypto.comArena, and The Ritz Carlton Hotel and Residences. Patrons of the arts gladly drive to Downtown L.A. for the best in classical music (Disney Hall), theater (Mark Taper and Ahmanson), and contemporary art (MOCA, The Broad Museum, CAAM).

DTLA offers 8.6-square-miles of neighborhood with a bustling high-rise Financial District; an Arts District loaded with galleries; a Fashion District; a Civic Center and vibrant ethnic enclaves from Chinatown and Koreatown to Little Tokyo and Mexican Town.

As Southern California’s most technologically advanced green venue, the LA Convention Center strives to be eco-friendly and sustainable at the LEED GOLD O&M level, utilizing EPA and Green certified approved cleaning supplies to limit harmful chemicals and maintain cleanliness. In addition, LACC has established objectives and program planning through the ASM Global VenueShield Program for best-in-class levels of cleanliness and safety. Our home venue, featuring soaring ceilings and ample space, including one of the largest dedicated parking structures in the entire city with over 15,000 spaces in the immediate vicinity, is the only LA venue that can accommodate a show the magnitude of the LA Art Show!

Oscar Nominations

Oscar Nominations

The Oscars, officially known as the Academy Awards, are nearly 96 years old. The first ceremony was held on May 16, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Here’s a bit of history:

Origins:

The awards were conceived by Louis B. Mayer, head of MGM Studios, as a way to honor outstanding achievements in the film industry and to help improve its public image during a time when Hollywood faced scandals and criticism. The awards also aimed to foster unity among industry professionals.

The First Ceremony:

  • The inaugural event honored films released between 1927 and 1928.
  • It was a private dinner with about 270 guests in attendance.
  • Tickets cost $5, and the ceremony lasted just 15 minutes.
  • The winners were announced three months earlier, so there wasn’t much suspense like today.

The Statuette:

The famous Oscar statuette was designed by Cedric Gibbons and sculpted by George Stanley. The statuette depicts a knight holding a sword, standing on a reel of film. It’s made of gold-plated bronze and is one of the most recognizable trophies in the world.

The Name “Oscar”:

There’s no definitive story behind the name, but one popular legend is that Margaret Herrick, the Academy librarian, remarked the statue resembled her uncle Oscar. The nickname stuck and became official in 1939.

Growth and Prestige:

Over the years, the Academy Awards evolved into a major televised event. The first broadcast was on radio in 1930, and it debuted on television in 1953. Today, it’s a global celebration of cinema, drawing millions of viewers from around the world.

The Oscars have seen incredible moments, controversies, and milestones, making it a cultural phenomenon and one of the highest honors in the entertainment industry. The upcoming 96th Oscars will be held on March 10, 2025.

Alix Clo – Age Inclusive Skincare

Alix Clo – Age Inclusive Skincare

Combining her studies in Ayurveda, Aromatherapy, and Organic Skincare Formulation, Alix Clo brings you an evolving collection of highly therapeutic, age-inclusive, natural skincare products, that not only work, but also feel amazing.

This new skin care line, specially formulated for the 40+ age group, is branded as Radiance at Any Age. As Alix says “I started Alix Clo out of a desire to represent different faces (more than 20 years old) in a beauty industry with an oppressive “anti aging” narrative.”

One of the top sellers in the Alix Clo line is Ceremony. This is an oil based serum that readily absorbs into your skin, contains zero toxins, improves your complexion, repairs your skin barrier, and boosts your collagen. Ceremony is made with a cell-renewing blend of Bakuchiol (a plant-based retinol alternative), Papaya, Orchid, Black Raspberry and Australian Sandalwood..in other words, it is packed with antioxidants and Vitamins C & E.

Designed with menopause in mind, Alix Clo’s Ceremony promises to deliver a dewey glow in 30 seconds.

All of that sounds pretty fantastic, doesn’t it? So when I received my sample in the mail, I was super excited to try it. Who doesn’t want a skincare product that promises cell turnover, skin rejuvenation, and healthy glowing skin? I know I do.

I have to be a little careful with what I put on my face as I tend to have rosacea flare ups. This light-weight oil was not a problem for my sensitive skin at all, plus, it feels simply delicious. Your skin is instantly soft, moisturized, and the promise of dewey skin is real.

After a few weeks, I could absolutely feel the difference in moisture retention and I only used Ceremony once a day– (you can use it twice a day if you like).

I further received a powerful little jar of Wonder. This serum delivers deep hydration and improves elasticity.
It’s enriched with ashwagandha extract, cold-pressed tamanu seed oil, amla seed oil, and anise. Wonder is a solid serum, gentle cleanser and a repairing face mask all in one. One again, I was thrilled with the results of this skincare product.

In an industry that markets youth as the ultimate version of beauty, it is Alix Clo’s hope to transform our relationship with aging.  As Alix likes to say “Age Beautiful“.

Being of a certain age, I support this philosophy. We may not all be young but we do all deserve to be included. My skin has different needs than it did 20 years ago, and I appreciate a company that gives older women a seat at the table.

Southern California has long been synonymous with sweeping landscapes, golden beaches, and a Mediterranean climate, but it is also a region profoundly shaped by fire. For decades, wildfires have scorched its hillsides, valleys, and forests, leaving a legacy of destruction and resilience. These blazes are not merely environmental events; they are emblematic of the challenges posed by urban expansion, climate change, and the delicate balance of Southern California’s ecosystems.

The Impact of Fires in Southern California

Southern California’s wildfires are notorious for their speed, intensity, and unpredictability. Fueled by the region’s dry conditions, high temperatures, and strong Santa Ana winds, fires can spread rapidly, consuming thousands of acres in a matter of hours. Entire communities have been displaced, homes reduced to ash, and lives tragically lost. The economic toll is staggering, with billions of dollars spent annually on firefighting, recovery, and rebuilding efforts.

Beyond the immediate destruction, the fires have long-term effects on air quality, soil erosion, and water resources. Smoke from these blazes blankets the skies, creating hazardous conditions for residents and exacerbating respiratory issues. Meanwhile, wildlife habitats are decimated, and post-fire erosion often leads to mudslides in the rainy season, compounding the devastation.

A Historical Perspective

Fires are a natural part of Southern California’s ecology. For thousands of years, indigenous peoples, including the Tongva and Chumash tribes, used controlled burns to manage vegetation and promote biodiversity. However, the dynamics of fire in the region changed with European settlement and urban development.

The 20th and 21st centuries have seen some of the most catastrophic fires in Southern California’s history. The 2003 Cedar Fire in San Diego County, the 2007 Witch Fire, and the more recent Camp Fire of 2018 (though further north) illustrate the increasing scale and severity of these blazes. The 2017 Thomas Fire, one of the largest in California’s history, burned over 280,000 acres, destroying homes, displacing families, and leaving scars that lingered for years.

Climate Change and Urban Encroachment

Southern California’s fire crisis has been exacerbated by two critical factors: climate change and urban sprawl. Prolonged droughts and rising temperatures have created a tinderbox of dry vegetation, making the region more vulnerable to fires than ever before. At the same time, development has pushed housing into fire-prone areas, putting more lives and property at risk.

Resilience and Renewal

Despite the devastation, Southern California’s communities have demonstrated remarkable resilience. Innovations in fire science, stricter building codes, and community-driven fire prevention initiatives have emerged as powerful tools in mitigating the impact of wildfires. Agencies like Cal Fire and local fire departments continually refine strategies to combat these disasters, while public awareness campaigns emphasize preparedness and evacuation planning.

On the ecological front, nature shows its capacity for renewal. Native species like chaparral and certain pine trees are adapted to fire, using it as a mechanism to regenerate. However, invasive species and increasing fire frequency threaten this balance, underscoring the need for sustainable land management.

In response to the recent wildfires in Southern California, numerous organizations and businesses are offering free services to support affected individuals. Here are some available resources:

Transportation:

  • Uber: Provides a $40 credit for rides to evacuation sites using the code WILDFIRE25.

  • Local Restaurants: Several establishments offer free meals to evacuees and first responders.

Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Officially Launches After $64 Million Renovation

Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Officially Launches After $64 Million Renovation

(For a video tour of Grand Hyatt Indian Wells and an interview with Chef Angelo Sosa, watch here and here.)

At the end of 2024, Grand Hyatt Indian Wells kicked off their official up-brand with a grand re-opening party, complete with self-guided tours for invitees, a glitzy party, and vibrant performances and meals. The celebration saw decadent highlights of the property’s two signature restaurants led by celebrity chef Angelo Sosa, a showcase of their spacious and brand new villas & penthouse views, and ideal usage of the plentiful and massive spaces available for any occasion. In typical Hyatt fashion, this event included small businesses who helped add some flair to the evening, amping up the party even more!

All photos courtesy of Grand Hyatt Indian Wells.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Trinity Investments are proud to announce the completed planned rebranding of Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa to Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Resort & Villas. The rebrand was timed to the culmination of a $64 million property-wide renovation and ushers in a new era of luxury for the iconic desert resort with redesigned guestrooms and luxury villas, an expanded lobby experience, elevated accommodations, refreshed meeting and event spaces, two new dining concepts and a reimagined pool complex with extended cabana offerings. A resort steeped in Indian Wells’ tennis history, the property is also a short drive away from the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, which plays host to the BNP Paribas Open, the first of nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments each year.

“Grand Hyatt hotels showcase bold and vibrant design and architecture, creating captivating destinations within a destination. The newly renovated and rebranded Grand Hyatt Indian Wells Resort & Villas will introduce guests and members to an elevated level of hospitality,” said Susan Santiago, President, U.S. and Canada, Hyatt. “Located in a key destination for leisure and business travelers looking to experience the best of Coachella Valley, the refreshed resort will help guests celebrate magnificent moments and create memorable experiences throughout their stay.”

Elevated Guestrooms, Suites and Villas
Grand Hyatt Indian Wells’ refreshed design, overseen by the renowned Southern California firm, IndiDesign, will reflect the serene beauty of its locale and offer an upscale resort experience. Inspired by the dramatic geography and date farms that surround the property, Grand Hyatt Indian Wells’ new look and feel combines a neutral color palette and tasteful wood accents with mid-century modern design elements. The property’s newly enhanced 531 accommodations, including 39 spacious suites have completed renovations, while 43 one- and two-bedroom private villas, are set to debut by November 2024.

Grand Hyatt Indian Wells will provide large guestrooms, with 550 square feet of luxurious living space. Guests can choose from various configurations, including one king bed, two king beds, rooms with full-sized bunkbeds, and more. Each room features a multi-functional living space, a spa-inspired bathroom, and a private patio or balcony. The resort’s newly renovated suites also offer spacious accommodations designed for families and groups. These suites include a separate living area with a sleeper sofa, a wet bar with a full-size refrigerator and microwave, and dual private balconies offering breathtaking views of the golf course, pool, resort grounds and surrounding mountain backdrop. Suites on the ground floor feature patios, offering convenient pool access.

As the premier offering at Grand Hyatt Indian Wells, the resort’s luxury villas will be transformed to seamlessly blend into the desert locale with sophisticated interiors that layer artisanal details like natural tones and muted hues with new landscaping to provide an intimate sense of place. Hand-crafted furniture will be mixed with modern decor and artistic lighting fixtures to bring character into each living space. Grand Hyatt Indian Wells’ new villas will offer an array of exclusive features and premium amenities for guests, including a private backyard with a hot tub, plunge pool or firepit, kitchenette with refrigerators, access to an adults only spa, and golf cart escorts around the property. Guests will also have access to an exclusive arrival experience and dedicated villa concierge to provide effortless service throughout their stay.

Inventive Dining Concepts
Aheads of its grand opening this fall, the property will offer a late summer preview introducing two new restaurant concepts – Tía Carmen and Carmocha – in collaboration with the acclaimed Chef Angelo Sosa. Renowned for his bold cooking, Chef Sosa brings over 25 years of experience that has taken him from three-star kitchens in Europe and beyond. A protege of Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Chef Sosa has worked with some of the industry’s most renowned restaurateurs, including Alain Ducasse, Stephen Starr and Masaharu Morimoto. He has opened several restaurants in New York City, San Diego, and most recently Phoenix, with Kembara, as well as the first location of Tía Carmen. Like the original location, Tía Carmen at Grand Hyatt Indian Wells will pay homage to Chef Sosa’s aunt (tía) Carmen, and celebrate the local landscape, farmers and community of the Southwest reflecting a mix of tradition and modernity, this time with modern Californian flair.

Carmocha is a new concept that reimagines global small plates from the perspective of Angelo’s tía Carmen if she had traveled around the world and came back from her journeys to put her own spin on some of the dazzling array of international flavors she experienced. For a casual dining option, the resort also enhanced its lobby marketplace, providing several all-day culinary offerings for either grab-and-go or sit-down settings with a coffee bar and selection of teas, sandwiches, and treats as well as wine, beer and more.

Destination-Driven Pool Experience
The anchor of the resort guest journey is its popular pool experience, and the new Grand Hyatt Indian Wells will unveil enhancements to the spacious outdoor recreation area with expanded cabanas fit for large groups and families, as well as new dining options including a food truck, Palmadoro’s, serving pizza and signature Italian bites, and a refreshed café, offering poolside favorites. Grand Hyatt Indian Wells’ pool experience also features the largest waterpark in the Greater Palm Springs desert, HyTides, which includes nine expansive pools, a set of 30-foot high (150-feet in length) dueling waterslides, a 450-foot lazy river and family-friendly favorites, such as an expansive splash pad.

Grand Gatherings
A top destination for events in Greater Palm Springs, Grand Hyatt Indian Wells will offer 88,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space. Recently revitalized ballroom, meeting rooms and boardrooms will give way to terraces and lawns with breathtaking views, ideal for weddings, special events and corporate retreats. With offerings that are nothing short of grand, the resort’s renovated Mezzanine level includes meeting and events space, allowing guests to create memorable gatherings for any moment or milestone.

Unparalleled Wellbeing Offerings
As a hospitality company focused on care, Hyatt takes pride in setting a new standard of wellbeing for travel, making sure every touch point is crafted to support all facets of wellbeing. Therefore, the property will introduce new programming and offerings to care for guests.

For a relaxing wellbeing retreat, the 30,000-square-foot Agua Serena Spa will unveil new enhancements this Fall. The property also recently collaborated with Kalologie MedSpa  to open their newest location on property in Indian Wells. Situated adjacent to Agua Serena Spa, the new facility includes four private treatment rooms and an IV lounge with a variety of renewing services, including IV hydration therapy, B12 energy boosts, and more.
