2025 started off with the unimaginable, as parts of the greater Los Angeles area fell victim to a firestorm. This perfect storm of raging, hurricane-force winds, blinding smoke, quick-moving flames, and sizzling walls of embers brought large-scale destruction to the Pacific Palisades and Altadena. However, other areas including Ventura County, San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, and even as far south as San Diego, have suffered from continued fire weather in the following days. In what has been an overwhelmingly dry rainy season, Southern California has gone approximately 300 days without rain — until this past weekend. Now, the city sees its neighbors, families, and friends all across the state come together to heal, rebuild, and show their support for those affected by the fires.
For the firefighters and law enforcement who gave their all, the region has shown eternal gratitude. And for the victims whose lives are forever changed, immense empathy and encouragement will pour for months to come, because we are all in this effort together. Below are community care initiatives put together in order to help those impacted by the recent fires.
Sustainable hat brand, The Goodwell Company launched a 90-day campaign with a strong commitment that shows their dedication to the city. Through April 15, 2025, The Goodwell Company is donating 100% of proceeds from sales to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, which helps secure vital equipment and funds critical programs to ensure LAFD can continue to save lives.
The GoodWell Company is a Los Angeles-based sustainable hat brand dedicated to producing eco-friendly, stylish products while supporting meaningful causes.
Staying true to their mission “to create sustainable, high-quality products that not only look good but also do good for the planet and our community,” Co-Founder Sam Braig sets an example of what community care looks like when we all come together. “We believe in giving back to the community that inspires us and using business as a force for good,” The Goodwell Company states. Malibu Beach Inn is committed to providing refuge, rebuilding efforts, and ongoing support after the devastating fire and their own close calls twice in the last few months.
Having reopened on January 24, the hotel came forward with a series of impactful initiatives in place. These include discounted rates for short or long-term stays, extensive cleaning & remediation protocols to ensure guest safety, and mental health support in collaboration with CURE:
Even some of our favorite restuarants are taking part and doing what they can to support our community. This February, Blu Jam Café, one of Los Angeles’ most popular spots for breakfast and brunch, is sharing the love—not just for Valentine’s Day, but all month long — a testament to their love of the city and vice versa. During February, Blu Jam Café’s signature Crunchy French Toast is getting a festive twist, served in a heart shape and topped with whipped cream cheese, strawberry jam, fresh berries, and their signature vanilla sauce.
For every Heart-Shaped Crunchy French Toast sold, $2 will be donated to the California Wildfire Relief Fund, making it a delicious way to indulge while giving back.
This limited-time special will be available at all six Blu Jam Café locations throughout February.

Luxury skincare innovators, Valmont Skincare understands the need to support LA, which is why they announced today, January 28, their pledge to support local artists affected by the LA fire devastation. Art and creativity is one of the core values of Valmont Group.

Like all La Maison Valmont boutiques worldwide, the space provides an immersive experience exhibiting the intersection of art and beauty, offering guests luxurious skincare treatments as well as the opportunity to discover the works of established and emerging artists local to the area. Therefore, the Guillon Family, owners of Valmont, have pledged $110,000 through the LA Maison Valmont Beverly Hills boutique (opened in July 2024) to support 11 local artists in hopes the donation will help artists rebuild, create, and thrive once again.
Sonäge Skincare whose mission advocates for “a holistic lifestyle, changing the way we treat our bodies to feel good for our age,” will be distributing 500 personal care packages to those affected by the LA fires. The bags include a face cleanser, SPF, and Vitamin C Serum. Victims who have been directly affected by the recent fires can fill out Sonäge’s Google form and pick up from their store at 3213 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica.

Embarc dispensary, with rest of the cannabis industry, is jumping in to help. Embarc has launched a GoFundMe, bringing the industry together to support fire relief. Their own donation kicked things off with $16,000 from Embarc Dispensary. In addition, on January 21 Embarc began collecting goods at all of its 16 stores statewide. This allows its customers an opportunity to contribute from all over the state. Use Embarc’s dispensary locator to find your closest location.
Based in San Diego, Gelato Water immediately sprung into action as the news of the fires made its way to the local tv stations. Gelato Water co-founder and CEO George Sadler, saw the news and knew he couldn’t sit idly by. So far, Gelato Water has donated over 100,000 cans of their spring water to fire relief efforts that include donations to The Dream Center, Pasadena Civic Center, and going directly to first responders stationed outside the fires to give them water as they rest from fire fighting. Gelato Water is the sister company of Gelato Canna Co., one of CA’s fastest growing cannabis companies.
The LA-based dispensary and consumption lounge has always put community first. Over the weekend The Artist Tree set up donation boxes at their LA locations where customers could drop off essential items for those affected by the fires. All items will be donated to Anderson Munger YMCA in Koreatown. The Artist Tree is currently planning additional fire relief efforts and will be ready to announce them in the coming weeks.
The doctor is in. B Real, aka Dr. Greenthumb, of legendary hip hop group Cypress Hill, is hosting a donation drive at the West LA location of his namesake dispensary, Dr. Greenthumb’s. All items will be donated to various shelters throughout B Real’s LA hometown. Collected items included feminine care products, baby wipes, clothes, blankets and more.
Victims of recent fires in Southern California who have lost cannabis-related accessories and devices are now receiving a helping hand, thanks to Emerald Village West Hollywood, Los Angeles NORML and the Cannabis Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Los Angeles NORML and the Cannabis Chamber began collecting new, unused devices and accessories at their January Mixer at Baja Cantina, 311 Washington Boulevard, Marina Del Rey, from 5 to 9 PM.
Southern California has long been synonymous with sweeping landscapes, golden beaches, and a Mediterranean climate, but it is also a region profoundly shaped by fire. For decades, wildfires have scorched its hillsides, valleys, and forests, leaving a legacy of destruction and resilience. These blazes are not merely environmental events; they are emblematic of the challenges posed by urban expansion, climate change, and the delicate balance of Southern California’s ecosystems.
Southern California’s wildfires are notorious for their speed, intensity, and unpredictability. Fueled by the region’s dry conditions, high temperatures, and strong Santa Ana winds, fires can spread rapidly, consuming thousands of acres in a matter of hours. Entire communities have been displaced, homes reduced to ash, and lives tragically lost. The economic toll is staggering, with billions of dollars spent annually on firefighting, recovery, and rebuilding efforts.
Beyond the immediate destruction, the fires have long-term effects on air quality, soil erosion, and water resources. Smoke from these blazes blankets the skies, creating hazardous conditions for residents and exacerbating respiratory issues. Meanwhile, wildlife habitats are decimated, and post-fire erosion often leads to mudslides in the rainy season, compounding the devastation.
Fires are a natural part of Southern California’s ecology. For thousands of years, indigenous peoples, including the Tongva and Chumash tribes, used controlled burns to manage vegetation and promote biodiversity. However, the dynamics of fire in the region changed with European settlement and urban development.
The 20th and 21st centuries have seen some of the most catastrophic fires in Southern California’s history. The 2003 Cedar Fire in San Diego County, the 2007 Witch Fire, and the more recent Camp Fire of 2018 (though further north) illustrate the increasing scale and severity of these blazes. The 2017 Thomas Fire, one of the largest in California’s history, burned over 280,000 acres, destroying homes, displacing families, and leaving scars that lingered for years.
Southern California’s fire crisis has been exacerbated by two critical factors: climate change and urban sprawl. Prolonged droughts and rising temperatures have created a tinderbox of dry vegetation, making the region more vulnerable to fires than ever before. At the same time, development has pushed housing into fire-prone areas, putting more lives and property at risk.
Despite the devastation, Southern California’s communities have demonstrated remarkable resilience. Innovations in fire science, stricter building codes, and community-driven fire prevention initiatives have emerged as powerful tools in mitigating the impact of wildfires. Agencies like Cal Fire and local fire departments continually refine strategies to combat these disasters, while public awareness campaigns emphasize preparedness and evacuation planning.
On the ecological front, nature shows its capacity for renewal. Native species like chaparral and certain pine trees are adapted to fire, using it as a mechanism to regenerate. However, invasive species and increasing fire frequency threaten this balance, underscoring the need for sustainable land management.

Earlier this year, we featured Hyatt Regency Irvine and showcased the property’s $55 million transformation. That transformation propelled this hotel into a powerful position: a perfect example of modern day hospitality, and something that we just know will be a trendsetter for years to come as others follow in their footsteps. To learn more about the overall experience, rooms & suites, amenities and features, check out our initial coverage here or in video format here.

Luxurious and elegant, yet approachable, Hyatt Regency Irvine embraces forward-thinking ideas to solutions, while eliminating much of the noise and friction that travelers and guests have grown accustomed to with most hotel experiences. During our recent follow up visit, we had an opportunity to see the newest additions to the property that were not quite complete during our first tour: the acclaimed Regency Club, pool & cabanas, the pavilion, lawn, Warehouse 72, and outdoor escapes that feel like you’ve stepped out of the urban sprawl and into a pocket of wilderness. Not only are these bonus attractions for celebrations, events, and special occasions, but Hyatt Regency Irvine is giving guests a thrilling reason to come to back with its own seasonal events!
While in a great location not too far from Disney, beaches, and other attractions, the property accomplishes a feeling of “home” and makes it difficult to even think about leaving. We start with some of the food options, as Hyatt Regency Irvine smartly provides 3 main locations within steps of one another for families to decide on meals, and all of them plenty of options. For the a-la-cart-friendly and picky eaters — while also money-saving — The Market is always a great grab-and-go stop that saves on time with its own hot picks and seasonal offerings. The Regency Club has something for everyone, while somewhat of a surprise and ensuring all-day options that never get old. And finally, Warehouse 72 steps things up even further while still a fitting destination for families and adults alike. Read on, and/or watch here for the full rundown of the latest.
Walking into Hyatt Regency Irvine, the natural flow of the property encapsulates and carries you, like wind through a tunnel. As you stroll from the lobby and into the distance where Warehouse 72 awaits, the eyes wonder even further, through the patio doors and onto the pool’s giant screen. This seamless and natural flow is unstoppable, but then you snap back. While each breathtaking sight at the property leads to another, Warehouse 72 fits right in with Hyatt Regency Irvine‘s aesthetics and design. The hotel’s third party signature restaurant, welcomes guests within an open, elegant, and lively atmosphere. Borrowing from the hotel’s tech prowess, Warehouse 72 features two of its own stunning LED screens that envelop guests and virtually transport them to a number of stunning artistic destinations on display.
Immediately, we began to see the vision of what Warehouse 72 can accomplish as an attraction beyond their incredible dishes. The screens set the stage for quiet and romantic evenings of bliss, tactful business summit afternoons, and even the thrills of exciting sport nights at the wraparound bar. A transformative space, Warehouse 72 offers reimagined American classics, and boldly delivers on international favorites from its appetizers and entrees to its desserts.
Appetizers we tried include a flavor-bursting Kampachi Crudo featuring Peri Peri sauce, grilled pineapple, soy-citrus emulsion, crispy garlic, smoked sea salt, and the innovative House-Made Fried Mozzarella: Hand-stretched mozzarella, fresh marinara, Parmesan, and micro basil. Guests can’t go wrong with entrees like their melt-in-your-mouth Pork Belly Kimchi Fried Rice: Crispy pork belly, fried rice, kimchi, gochujang, and green onions; or tender and juicy Peruvian Roasted Jidori Chicken: Peruvian marinated Jidori half chicken, spiced crispy marble potatoes, grilled broccolini, aji verde, micro cilantro, and fresh lime.
To put dessert simply, there’s nothing else like Warehouse 72’s Frozen S’mores! Playful, fun, and absolutely delicious, these s’mores are hard to imagine based one their name alone, but the surprise reveal is worth it in the end. Great for kids and adults, it was one of our highlights of the evening. And if you’re a lover of butterscotch, the Butterscotch Budino is a blissful treat made of butterscotch custard, caramel, dark chocolate pearls and chantilly cream. For more kid-like fun with an adult twist, we recommend the seasonal “Fall on Flavor” cocktail, topped with toasted marshmallow puree, or the “Purple Gremlin” for a mocktail that’s full on flavor and more than just a mixed juice.
Gone are the days of relying on the old continental breakfast to push you through the morning, and here are the days of something much more robust. Regency Club offers a rotating menu of meals and snacks from morning to evening. During our visit, breakfast ranged from scrambled eggs, mindful sausage options, and pancakes, to biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, and a variety of pastries. After breakfast, guests can look forward to a midday snack offering like cookies and trail mix. Dinner features bold and flavorful staples from across the world that the hotel’s guests will know and love.
Finally, dessert is always a plus as Hyatt Regency Irvine treats, guests to tarts, cakes, cookies, and more. The beauty of Regency Club is that it has such a low barrier cost, making it worth it for everyone. In fact, there are promotions for the bunk suites, offering club access for the duration of a stay. The Regency Club was such a hit, that we found the breakfast rush to be quite surprising and almost overwhelming.
They say the early bird gets the worm, but in this case we think the early bird gets peace. The Regency Club was clearly popular on our first morning, with many people coming in – yet plenty of seats left. On day 2, Regency Club was nearly at capacity, with barely any seats available during the height of the breakfast rush — typically the last hour or so before breakfast ends, and everyone is rushing to get their share. We realized that a very large family was the primary reason for the near-shortage of seats, and still the room never felt entirely cramped.
Thankfully, the Regency Club has an outdoor patio with additional seating, making it perfect for those hectic and bustling mornings. Regency Club boasts in assortment of options for the health and diet-conscious, with milk available in a mini refrigerator, soft drinks available in another mini refrigerator, taps for beer, a cocktail menu, and the embrace of technology, featuring a café that can do it all. From hot chocolate and lattes to espressos and hot tea, there’s always a reason to come back to the club and refuel or take a culinary journey.
Interestingly, the property never feels too massive to navigate. We never felt lost or needed to ask for directions, and in the event that something has been forgotten in the suite, it never feels like a burden to go back for it – even while at the pool. The pool itself is a marvel to look at. It gradually and seamlessly slopes from its shallow end to the deeper end, making it easy to look after children, while also easy to access. The pool is flanked by a jacuzzi and 2 waterslides that lead into a shallow smaller pool, which kids are able to play in outside of the waterslide hours of operation.
In addition, there are plentiful lounge, chairs, and the most spectacular private cabana available for rental. On one hand, there are your standard cabana, though we argue that there is nothing standard about them. And on the other hand, are the premium cabanas, which feature fire pits and extended gated space, making perfect for group events like parties. Cabanas feature a television, dedicated speakers with remotes to control music and tv volume, ceiling fans & light control, curtains for privacy, and incredibly comfortable outdoor furniture that we wish we could take home.
The big star of the pool area is the massive 24-by-17-foot LED screen that is great for evening viewing, but still great and easy to see during the day — a challenge that General Manager Sid Ramani was determined to overcome. He found that many hotels with outdoor screens started family movie times too late in the evening due to the time that the sun sets, while many families are ready to pack up and return to their rooms after a long day. Other nice touches include RFID-equipped towels stored in a dedicated machine where guests simply swipe their room key for access. This system keeps the towels linked to the guests room. And one done using them, the towels simply get dropped off into the nearby dropbox, making it easy for guests to avoid additional charges. In the event that towels are taken to a guests room, they will be notified to return their towel within a certain time window — and their RFID technology makes them findable in the event that housekeeping removes them.
In the future, guests can expect a dedicated outdoor dining area to pick up fresh meals and snacks, with more than enough seating to enjoy a quick recharge without leaving the pool entirely.
The pavilion and lawn add to Hyatt Regency Irvine’s already extensive event space. The property is capable of holding multiple events all at once, and as we learned, it has performed well under pressure as a dedicated concert venue while hosting thousands of guests. Its outdoor pavilion stands tall and elevated, making it a great hideaway from California’s elusive rainy days, while the gorgeous lawn is picture perfect for any occasion. From weddings and concerts, to holidays and sporting events, it’s evident that Hyatt Regency Irvine knows its potential, and more than meets the moment every time.
Warehouse 72’s patio with a view of its LED Screen along the back wall.
The property’s vast expanse of space maintains a running theme from suites to recreational areas: intention. From the outdoor patio of Warehouse 72 to a special “off-trail” section near the pool containing fire pits, seating, and protection from the sun, Hyatt Regency Irvine delivers indoor and outdoor satisfaction. Despite being in the business district of Irvine, this these touches successfully transport guests to feel secluded and away from the restless city. Guests can expect the ability to roast marshmallows and make s’mores, as well as additional functional use during special events.
Speaking of events, if you’re looking for the perfect opportunity to visit Hyatt Regency Irvine and potentially stay for a weekend, here’s what coming up that will be great for the whole family!
To embrace the spooky spirit of the season, the newly renovated hotel is hosting a Halloween-themed Spooky Splash Cinema, showcasing Hotel Transylvania on the hotel’s one-of-a-kind poolside 24-by-17-foot LED screen. Open to hotel guests and the local community, Spooky Splash Cinema event will be a festive celebration filled with Halloween fun, cozy fall vibes, and delicious seasonal offering:
