Holistic Beauty Brand, Wildling Expands Skincare Offerings

Holistic Beauty Brand, Wildling Expands Skincare Offerings

It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer. With it, many of us will sweat profusely, increasing our need to shower and groom — particularly skincare to cleanse our faces of bacteria and the right products to fight frown lines. Thankfully, there are a few new products to help us from Wildling, an award-winning, holistic beauty brand inspired by herbal and Chinese medicine.

On Tuesday, June 27 Wildling rolled out 3 new products: Starnectar Jelly Cleanser ($45), Moonbounce Plumping Moisturizer ($82), and a Reflexology Spoon ($35). With astrology, herbology and stone medicine as the heartbeat and pillars of the collection, each product includes nontoxic, clinically tested, sustainably sourced, and earth-based ingredients infused with the vibration of calming Moonstone (the oldest medicine of healing).

“Easy and Minimal 2-step Process”

We’ve tried the new products out, and can say that they are a summer staple! When you just don’t have time or the guts to face the summer heat for a facial, the Starnectar Jelly Cleanser is a refreshing alternative. Reminiscent of honey, the golden jelly pairs with the Reflexology Spoon to provide cool and instantly moisturizing relief with each application to the pressure points of the face. The best part is that you only need apply the cleanser to dry skin, and remove with a damp cloth. It couldn’t be any easier!

After removal of the cleanser, the Moonbounce Plumping Moisturizer should be applied with the Reflexology Spoon in upward strokes from the neck up. It immediately feels like it’s working to counteract wrinkles, skin damage, bags and sagging. By morning, you’re looking at soft-yet-firm, youthful radiance. — though you can perform this skin-loving ritual in the morning, at night, or twice a day. Essentially a massage for the face, this easy and minimal 2-step process is the next best alternative to a full on facial — saving time and money, with all the feeling of freshness that you love.

What’s In It?

Firstly, Starnectar Barrier Protect Marshmallow Jelly Cleanser is a cleansing balm that melts makeup and impurities away while maintaining softness and hydration, leaving your skin refreshed, plump, and dewy. The 100% natural blend brightens, softens skin and restores skin’s moisture barrier without stripping its natural oils. Choosing key ingredients that compliment each other to ensure the highest efficacy, the moon-inspired blend includes:

  • Marshmallow Root – Delivers deep hydration while soothing inflammation and repairing skin

  • Licorice Root – Soothes skin to help to ease inflammation, reduce redness, and brighten the complexion

  • Orange Peel –  Brightens and cleans while melting even stubborn makeup and SPF without stripping or drying skin

Following, the Moonbounce, 2% Bioretinol Irish Sea Moss Plumping Moisturizer works as a retinol alternative. This proprietary complex includes Bioretinol (Rock Samphire) and Irish Sea Moss to minimize wrinkles and firm the skin–without irritation. Boosted with natural ingredients to hydrate and plump tired skin, this transformative blend includes:

  • Bioretinol (Rock Samphire) – Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Irish Sea Moss – Nourishes to repair skin elasticity and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles

  • Marshmallow Root – “It’s that good we put it in both products…”

Finally, the Reflexology Spoon is not just “a spoon.” It’s a multi-purpose tool with a functional skincare scoop and reflexology tip to help firm the skin, release tension, and balance energy flow in the body. Simply scoop your skincare products and use the rounded tip to activate pressure points. After all, what’s Wildling without a facial tool to complete the ritual?

It’s the perfect time to evolve your skincare and beauty routine. You can purchase Wildling products at their website.

Male Edition: The Art of Men’s Style

Male Edition: The Art of Men’s Style

As the age of photography enters into the  new era of AI, Fahey/Klein takes a look back at some of the most iconic images of men of style with a new group exhibit this week.

If you have never been to opening night at Fahey/Klein, drag out the finery and get ready to see and be seen.

The Fahey/Klein Gallery is pleased to present, Male Edition: The Art of Men’s Style. The photographs on display take the viewer through the varying ways personal style has been utilized in the expression of self-identity, with images spanning from the early 20th Century through the 21st Century. This group exhibition features (33) photographers with works celebrating male cultural icons, periods in history emblematic of men’s clothing, and figures with lasting influence on style today. Male Edition: The Art of Men’s Style will showcase genres and identities in culture through music, cinema, and the visual arts.

Male Edition: The Art of Men’s Style celebrates and documents the evolution of men’s style through iconic works by some of photography’s most notable artists, and the clothing that has defined the male esthetic – reveling in images of rakish style, eccentrics, and the flamboyance of self-expression. These photographs emphasize that clothes and adornments are the reflection of the individual who dons them and makes them their own.

The early 20th Century is synonymous with the rise of the “modern man”. Icons like Jazz musician, Dexter Gordon, who effortlessly combined dapper fashion with musical prowess, embodied the spirit of the time – as illustrated in Herman Leonard’s portrait. Moving forward, the rebellious spirit of the 1950’s gave way to the greaser subculture. Figures like James Dean, photographed by Phil Stern, with his relaxed posture and confident gaze became a symbol of rebellion and effortless cool. The 1960’s witnessed a revolution in numerous ways, propelled by music and cultural reckonings. Steve Schapiro’s photograph of “Hippie with ‘Love’ Hat, Haight Ashbury, San Francisco” is a glimpse into the explosive evolution in style that gave way to playful experimentation. Meanwhile, the punk movement of the 1970’s and 1980’s injected a fierce and rebellious energy into the collective zeitgeist. The likes of Billy Idol, captured by Janette Beckman, with his leather jacket adorned with pins and spikes, became a symbol of nonconformity and individuality. Fast-forward to the present day, we find common touch stones of style borrowed and repurposed to embrace and define unique idiosyncrasies – regardless of gender identity.

Male Edition: The Art of Men’s Style features photographs by Bernice Abbott, Ruven Afanador, Miles Aldridge, Janette Beckman, Tom Bianchi, Brad Branson, William Claxton, Edward S. Curtis, Greg Gorman, Bob Gruen, George Hoyningen-Huene, Billy & Hells, Paul Jasmin, Annie Leibovitz, Herman Leonard, Alexander Liberman, Herbert List, Christopher Makos, Gered Mankowitz, Terry O’Neill, Irving Penn, Herb Ritts, Steve Schapiro, Norman Seeff, Mark Seliger, Paul Solberg, Randee St. Nicholas, Phil Stern, Agnes Varda, Ellen von Unwerth, Bruce Weber, Alfred Werthimer, and Dan Winters.

Pianist and Composer Chad Lawson Releases “breathe (guided breathwork edition)” New Deluxe Album

Pianist and Composer Chad Lawson Releases “breathe (guided breathwork edition)” New Deluxe Album

If you needed some mental rejuvenation as that Summer vacation you booked begins to close in, there’s someone out there who can help with unparalleled “sound therapy” and some enthusiastic participation from you, the listener. On May 5, world-renowned pianist Chad Lawson released breathe (guided breathwork edition), a new deluxe edition of his luminous album breathe, via Decca Records US. Released for Mental Health Awareness Month, the album includes a series of guided breathwork tracks, with Lawson’s soothing voice guiding listeners through simple techniques.

As both the creator and host of the iHeartRadio Award-nominated podcast Calm It Down, Lawson has established himself as an essential voice exploring the intersection of music and wellness. Says Lawson of the album: “I created breathe (guided breathwork edition) to offer an accessible and engaging experience for listeners seeking relaxation and balance. This album combines calming breathwork techniques with the emotive power of music, providing an easy-to-follow journey towards inner peace. I’m passionate about supporting mental health, and I hope this album can provide comfort and relief during life’s challenges.”

Lawson’s breathe debuted last year at #1 on the Billboard Classical Crossover Chart. Now, the guided breathwork edition offers listeners a unique opportunity to pause, relax, and learn breathing techniques such as sama vritti (box breathing) from Lawson himself. These tracks provide a moment for listeners to take a break from their daily lives and embark on a cathartic listening experience.

Additionally, the album includes reworks of tracks from breathe, previously released as part of Lawson’s drift EP and Apple Music Home Session, along with a new orchestral version of “letting go.” The reworks are a testament to Lawson’s ability to continually reimagine his music in new and innovative ways.

Chad Lawson’s 2022 album breathe marked the next chapter in a career that’s consistently found the official Steinway artist at the top of the Classical Billboard charts and signing major sync deals for Chevrolet, IBM, Microsoft, and Delta Airlines commercials. Lawson is the creator of Calm it Down, a podcast aimed at helping individuals cope with emotional and mental challenges using mindfulness, meditation, and focused breathing techniques. The podcast has surpassed 3.5 million downloads. He most recently released a piano cover of Harry Styles’ hit ballad “Matilda.” You can listen to Lawson’s take on the track here: “Matilda.” And you can also listen to the full album.

The Catalog that Changed Culture

The Catalog that Changed Culture

ALL MAN: THE INTERNATIONAL MALE STORY, the Tribeca Festival and Outfest Official Selection arrives on digital platforms June 6. Theatrical screenings will take place in New York (now on June 5!), Los Angeles, San Francisco.

Once upon a time where was a catalog that appeared in public in 1974. The catalog was unlike the Sears catalog or anything else as it had as its focus, men. It is true that 1973 saw the launch of Playgirl magazine, but this was a catalog about fashion, style and sex appeal. And it changed culture. It is likely that the International Male catalog spurred the onslaught of gay men to gyms across American in the late 70s. It helped redefine the notion of masculinity featuring ruggedly handsome models parading on oceanfronts across the world. And it was free.

It was called All Man: The International Story. And now there is a documentary—a very good documentary to tell the story.

The documentary, directed by Bryan Darling and Jesse Finley Reed, is an hour and a half look into a time, a time before AIDS, a time when retail stores could make their mark, and time when the burgeoning gay community was getting a foothold in culture. While New York had its After Dark magazine (mostly dancers and celebrities) this catalog had gay men clamoring for a peek at the tight, skimpy bathing suits. The film features interviews with past models and people employed by the company. And just like the 70s, as we headed into the 80s, AIDS begins to diminish the employees and models. What could have been a light, breezy look at a company that created a sexy catalog, turns into a potent look at life in the early 80s and the increasing horror of an epidemic in the gay community.

The founder of International Male, Gene Burkard, envisioned a platform that would cater specifically to men’s fashion needs, allowing them to explore and embrace their personal style. The catalogs became an essential medium through which the company showcased its unique and avant-garde fashion offerings.

In its early years, International Male catalogs featured clothing that challenged traditional notions of men’s fashion. The catalog presented bold and daring styles, incorporating vibrant colors, unconventional patterns, and experimental designs. It aimed to cater to a diverse customer base by offering clothing suitable for different occasions, including casual wear, formal attire, and even specialized costumes.

The catalogs gained attention for their innovative approach to fashion photography. They featured attractive male models who often posed in seductive and provocative ways, breaking new ground in the realm of men’s fashion advertising. This bold presentation became a defining characteristic of International Male’s aesthetic and contributed to the brand’s allure.

Over the years, International Male catalogs continued to push the boundaries of men’s fashion. They showcased emerging trends, incorporating elements of punk, new wave, and alternative styles. The brand’s commitment to offering unique and cutting-edge fashion choices made it a destination for men seeking distinctive and fashion-forward clothing.

In addition to clothing, International Male catalogs also featured a wide range of accessories, including shoes, jewelry, hats, belts, and grooming products. The brand aimed to provide a comprehensive shopping experience, enabling customers to curate their entire look from a single source.

As the internet gained popularity and e-commerce became more prevalent, International Male adapted to the changing retail landscape. The brand transitioned from traditional print catalogs to online sales, expanding its reach and accessibility to a global audience. This transition allowed International Male to stay relevant in the rapidly evolving fashion industry.

While the brand experienced fluctuations in popularity over the years, International Male catalogs remain a significant part of fashion history. They played a crucial role in challenging traditional gender norms and promoting self-expression through fashion choices for men. The catalogs showcased a wide array of styles and provided men with the confidence to embrace their individuality.

Your Health Questions Answered

Your Health Questions Answered

In our Ask the Experts ongoing series, we reached out to Dr. Nazarian who is a primary care physician in Beverly Hills who practices internal medicine and primary care. The office is recognized as one of the top medical practices in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Is COVID gone?

Covid 19 cases and hospital admissions due to covid have dropped significantly over the last year and recently the U.S. public health emergency declaration due to covid was ended. This, however, does not mean Covid 19 has completely gone away.

What’s the story on Diabetes medicine as weight loss?

There is a class of drugs called GLP-1 agonists or glucagon like peptide 1 receptor agonists that have gained popularity this year. These medications help curb hunger and slow the movement of food from the stomach into the stomach. As a result, people are less hungry and fuller faster. They are an effective tool in weight loss when properly administered by a physician. Our practice has been using these injections successfully with nutrition modifications to help patients lose weight. It is important to note that these medications are not for everyone, and one should have a consultation with a physician who is familiar with these meds to make sure there are no contraindication to use and proper follow up is provided. Patients who have a family history of thyroid cancer should not be using these medications. We are seeing patients who are prescribed these medications without the proper workup and follow up and having muscle loss due to lack of protein intake and proper follow up in our practice.

How big a part do you think nutrition plays in health and healing?

Nutrition plays a crucial role in both overall health and our bodies ability to heal itself. Poor nutrition can lead to weight gain and a variety of conditions that are associated with it. Proper nutrition intake provides our bodies with the proper amount of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrate and fatty acids to function. Certain nutrients, such as vitamin C, zinc, and protein, are particularly important for wound healing. Protein is necessary for the production of new cells and muscle growth and maintenance. Vitamin C and zinc support collagen synthesis, which is crucial for tissue repair.

What are your thoughts on the American healthcare system?

This is a complicated question with many factors involved. It is unfortunate to see that healthcare costs continue to go up and the only real winners are the insurance companies. Many people have seen their insurance premiums increase over the last several years while their benefits have been reduced. At the same time, physician reimbursements have gone done and profits at the insurance companies have gone up. Many physicians are leaving the networks as a result as they are not being reimbursed for the services they are providing.

Why are drugs more expensive here than in other countries?

Medications such as insulin, epinephrine, hepatitis C medications and cancer medications are more expensive in the U.S. than other countries.

What is your health routine?

I try to exercise regularly and lift weights at least 4 times a week. In addition, I try to have a balanced diet and get enough sleep at night. I don’t function as well when I am not exercising or getting enough sleep.

What is a concierge doctor?

A concierge doctor is a type of healthcare provider that offers a more personalized and comprehensive medical care to a limited number of patients. Concierge medical practices operate on a membership or retainer-based model where patients pay an annual fee to be part of the practice. In exchange they receive more time and access to their physician. Prevention and wellness is a big part of our concierge practice. Patients who are members of our practice receive a yearly executive physical exam that is included in their care in addition to same day appointments and access to myself and my team. We coordinate all aspects of their health and work closely with top specialists to ensure they receive the best care possible.
